Finally finished off Tepig today. It’s been sitting around with just the tail to go for a while. The curl in the tail was very fiddly (I can’t imagine doing that at the original model’s scale!) but fun. The tail was a bit droopy but I’ve used some hot glue to make it stand up. I usually use acetone based craft glue, which is great for sticking the tabs together. For attachments however, hot glue is the way to go.
Also, here’s a photo of WIP Lapras.
My work process for Lapras has been a bit different than for the starter pokemon. Since each polygon is so freaking huge, using cereal boxes is a bit impractical. Instead, I’ve had the templates printed at A1 size and I’m pasting them to 200gsm brown craft paper. It’s flimsier stuff than the boxboard used in cereal boxes, so the shapes don’t hold together as convincingly. As I progress more, I’ll have to add more support (I’ve been kind of papier mache-ing around some joints as I go) and may need to make some kind of scaffolding structure for the insides. Another consideration is going to be portability – I’d like to take Lapras out of the house, which may mean making it modular.

Amazing! Do you plan on making the full body or just the head. Keep doing amazing work

Hey Alex,
I’m planning to make the whole thing – you’ll see part of the shell in the upper half of the photo. I don’t yet know if it’s going to hold itself together though! I think it’s got about a litre of various different glues in it already, hehe.

Also what’s next after lapras. Are you going to finish up the unovoa starter or move on to a new regions starters? Whatever it is I’m lookin forward too it (and be sure to take abreak here and there 🙂 )
Alethea
Hm… It’d be nice to finish off the Unova starters before X and Y come out, but at my current rate (slow) I don’t think I’ll manage it.
I have a Mewtwo design almost ready to go, but whether or not I attempt it is going to depend on how the Lapras turns out. I might have to rework the templates because what I’m learning with Lapras is that pasting down a large sheet of paper and getting it to line up is hard!
Thanks again for your encouragement and enthusiasm 🙂

Hey how’s the work been going? Sad we haven’t gotten any updates lately
Alethea
Hi, sadly I haven’t had any time to work on any new models. I did mostly complete Lapras however and I’ll have to see if I can find some photos of it to share. Making something that large had a few new engineering problems to tackle and I guess it would be worth sharing what I learned.

Hey Althea! How’s the work on lapras and mewtwo. I’d love to give them a shot if you
Could share the models with me
Thanks
