White-browed tit warbler

This bird is like a fuzzy, winged nebula, so I decided to take a more abstract approach to today’s #avianaugust prompt!

I had a couple of false starts this time before the above piece came together. Here they are, there were things I liked in the first one but the splatters were too large. Ultimately I think the second came out way better so I’m glad the splatters made me restart the piece.

I really struggled against the paper for the second attempt – there was some waxy bits that didn’t want to take the paint. After these two I wasn’t sure I could do this concept justice but I stuck it out and I’m glad for it!

I painted this series of TARDIS inspired brooch designs! They’re one-of-a-kind watercolour pieces. I had a lot of fun working on the colour washes for each of them. The impressionist Van Gogh-ish designs were suggested by a friend, I mixed gouache with my watercolours to give a more oil-painty feel to them.

 

Watercolour Fox Badges

More experiments in lasers + watercolours. I’d planned to create something based on the bird sketches I shared the other day, but I’ve been having a lot of trouble doing the vector traceovers for them. This fox design I sketched yesterday has been much easier to work with.

I need to refine my painting work a bit, I think, but I’m very much looking forward to working on a variety of designs like this.

PS. I need a better name for these than badges or charms, any ideas?
