{"id":1311,"date":"2021-08-27T23:25:25","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T13:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/?p=1311"},"modified":"2025-01-29T13:59:08","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T04:29:08","slug":"northern-cardinal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/2021\/08\/northern-cardinal\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Cardinal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of the first watercolour brooches I experimented with was <a href=\"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/a-bird-in-hand\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"905\">of a cardinal<\/a>, so I thought that for today&#8217;s Avian August prompt I would revisit the laser cutter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somehow I nailed the design on the first sketch:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"809\" height=\"787\" src=\"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1312\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image.png 809w, https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-300x292.png 300w, https:\/\/ale.chenonetta.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-768x747.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And from there I could see that the piece would work either as a painted or acrylic piece!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a slight tricky bit to solve with how to depict the eye in the acrylic version &#8211; would the whole face piece be black acrylic and the white parts painted in? I instead opted to cut the eye out of white acrylic and to etch a section into that that I painted black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/E9yZM_oUcAMaXa6?format=jpg&amp;name=large\" alt=\"Image\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t realise how dark my sheet of red acrylic was but I didn&#8217;t have any alternatives on hand so it&#8217;ll have to do.
